Phonics and Reading
At Endeavour, we believe reading should be meaningful, enjoyable, and accessible for every young person. We help learners develop the skills they need to understand the world around them, from recognising signs, symbols, labels and information in the community to sharing books and stories for pleasure.
We use the Twinkl Phonics programme, beginning with phonological awareness to develop the listening, attention, communication and sound awareness skills that are the foundation of reading. This builds into the Twinkl Rhino Readers scheme, which offers a range of books to support knowledge and understanding at each phonics stage.
Alongside phonics, we use whole-word reading for learners who benefit from recognising familiar words and symbols, enabling them to develop reading skills in ways that are meaningful and accessible.
Our personalised approach supports every young person to develop reading skills that enrich their independence, communication, and enjoyment of the world around them.
