Social Skills
The yellow Social Skills section of our curriculum wheel focusses on developing our students' interaction, engagement, attention, language and communication skills.
Activities
We offer a range of activities including:
- Sensory stories which bring a story to life with interactive sensory elements like sounds, smells and textures. This enables our students to engage on a deeper level and develop a more solid understanding of the story and related vocabulary.
- Play sessions are led by the therapy team to teach early play skills. These are practised in class and in the playground before being developed in real-life environments, including parks, Thomley Hall and other local facilities.
- Attention Autism 'bucket' sessions to develop a student's focus and sustained attention skills through short, highly engaging activities.
- Communication opportunities are woven into all aspects of a student's day, including circle time, snack time and during learning activities.
This section of our curriculum is supported by our Speech & Language therapists.
